Summer’s Ending, Are You Ready to Begin Again?

Clean SlateIf you are like most students I know, you’ve enjoyed your summer – recharged and relaxed- basically, you’ve had a good time.

Even if you were working… there was a welcomed change of pace!  Did you just look at the calendar and realize… it is August!

How could this happen?  Just a few weeks ago you were finishing the school year and looking forward to relaxing during the summer.

I will be the bearer of bad news– August is here and for most, that means the beginning of a new school year is just around the corner.

I can also bring some good news– you get a blank slate!

You get to decide how you want to write and what you want to write there!  In order to do this, it might be a good idea to take a look at the work assigned for the summer.

Did you read most books?  Did you finish the math packet?  If you haven’t, do not panic… you can choose to begin now and with planning and careful ‘chunking down’ you will get it done before the new academic year begins.

If you are in college… did you sign up for your Fall classes?

Did you make housing arrangements?  You can start making a list of the things you want to do before you start classes again.

There is a bigger more meaningful question for all … how do you envision this new year?

What role do you see yourself playing?  It pays to take some time to think about these questions and if possible, to write or jot down some words.

This is not about looking and staying in the past… it is about envisioning this year!  What 3 things are you willing to try?

Can you challenge yourself to leave your comfort zone and try something new?  How can you take more responsibility for your education?

The next question relates to the how — how to make these changes happen?  What do you need to do?  What are you willing to do?  What new habits are you willing to adopt?

This question takes all these ideas and goals and breaks them down into action.

Will you accept my challenge?  Are you willing to take the time to set an intention for this semester?
